DIKKO RECEIVES ANOCA HONORARY AWARD OVER ONGOING REFORMS IN NIGERIAN SPORTS

Dikko receives ANOCA Honorary Award over ongoing Reforms in Nigerian Sports

Shehu Reiterates the National Sports Commission's unflinching support to the Olympic Movement and the seamless collaboration with Nigerian Olympic Committee including the proposal of the Federal Government in support of the building of the permanent Headquarters of for the NOC in Abuja.

The ongoing reforms and strategic realignment in Nigerian sports which aligns with the Olympic Charter and objectives, as well as Nigeria's support to ANOCA as the country hosting the ANOCA Headquarters in Abuja, has seen the Chairman of the National Sports Commission, NSC, Mallam Shehu Dikko receiving recognition and being honoured with the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) Special Recognition Award.

Mallam Dikko therefore, is in Algiers for the Ordinary Session of the ANOCA General Assembly under the Special Invitation of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) President Mustapha Berraf.

In a letter signed by Berraf, he wrote; "Allow me, on behalf of Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA), and my humble self, to have the privilege of conveying to you Special Invitation to honour the ANOCA General Assembly. As the Chairman National Sports Commission of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and host of the ANOCA Headquarters in Abuja, I am pleased to inform you that we will be more than honoured to welcome you among us as a distinguished guest of the Ordinary Session of ANOCA General Assembly."

The ANOCA President further said that; "I am pleased to inform you that this session will be graced by all the honourable IOC members, some senior officials of International Federations and various high-ranking personalities such as the Ministers of China, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Angola, Equatorial Guinea, Egypt etc."

He also took the opportunity to forge systemic engagements and peer review mechanisms with fellow Sports Ministers from countries of interest in attendance at the meeting such as Egypt, Algeria, Senegal, Angola, Qatar and Saudi Arabia. Further engagements will continue, including plans to have general meetings of entire African Sports Ministers being promoted by Egypt to align with the vision for African sports development.

According to a statement issued and signed by Ajayi Kehinde (Mrs), Director Information and Public Relations of the National Sports Commission, NSC, this ANOCA General Assembly is an elective one and Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) President Engr. Habu Gumel is seeking reelection into the ANOCA Executive Committee as Treasurer General.

The NSC Chairman seized the platform of the General Assembly to further outline the ongoing reforms in Nigeria under the RHINSE framework which targets to create a sports economy in Nigeria driven by the reset, refocus and relaunch pillars while highlighting the unprecedented support and attention to sports in Nigeria under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.
